
This will trigger a brief cutscene, and the door to your right will now be open, with a handful of Slugs to fight. Now, leave the area by going back the way you came. Boguta who will give you a Hot Dog recovery item. From there, head left and proceed through the door. Head north through the hallway to reach the next slug nest. Destroy it to find a chest containing a Gear Part. In the easternmost part of the hallway, you’ll find a bombable wall. If you’re running low on Bombs, you can find more in the yellow barrels on your right upon entering this area. Then, proceed north and Bomb the slug nest to destroy it. Watch out for the Electric Slug that will drop from the ceiling. In the next room, Bomb the boxes on the left path. A Slug Problem – Eastward The World Above Walkthrough Now, you can exit the room through the door we opened earlier on the far west end. Enter and place a Bomb next to the nest, destroying it. Place a Bomb next to the boxes blocking the path to the left of the storeroom. Enter the room Chuck is standing in the northeast corner and use your key to unlock the door. This will open the door in the top left of the room, but if you try to leave, Chuck stops you and says you need to bomb the nests. Open the chest within to find a key.ĭisconnect the power lines where the Slugs were, and connect it to the other line.

Once they’re defeated, connect the power line at the bottom of the area and turn the generator back on to unlock a nearby door. You’ll have to turn off the power generator to defeat the Slugs blocking the power line. Use the Y button on Switch to attack the Slugs with your Frying Pan. Drag the box to the right to get to the Slugs. These power-ups are items that can be used during battles to get an edge, and essential in making your way toward the demon king.Now it’s time for your first taste of combat. The figures are collectible by Eastward’s characters in the actual game world, packed into gacha-style machines activated by tokens.

There’s a bit of strategy and depth involved, too, with a series of collectible figurines - a la amiibo - that integrate into the game and add power-up options. Around the world, you’ll have to fight small battles in the lead up to the demon king, each of which plays out in a turn-based system. I accepted it similarly: the in-game game was a refreshing little break from what’s otherwise a sometimes dark story. For a lot of the characters I’ve met in my train-riding journey, Earth Born is described as a salve for the ever-crumbling world.

Like I wrote in my review, Earth Born is surprisingly deep - a full, yet small game that just makes sense in Eastward’s world. Playing it with locals in different areas is one of Eastward’s sheer delights, meeting rambunctious school kids to take turns on the sticks. Presumably a reference to EarthBound, one of Eastward’s clear influences, Earth Born is an 8-bit role-playing game with a story that mimics Eastward’s own, a tale so beloved across Potcrock Isle, Whitewhale Bay, and New Dam City that nearly everyone you meet in Eastward plays it. Developer Pixpil’s video game holds a second, also-playable video game called Earth Born. There’s a second story running underneath’s Eastward’s main narrative.
